Distinguished Unit Service Award
Citation for Adam Rapson

This young man is one whom you can always count on for assistance. A person need not ask him for help but when there is a change or something going on he is one of the first that will ask… “let me know what I can do to help you”. He is not just asking to ask – he is asking because he really would like to assist.

He is also the first person to greet you as you enter the room with a smile and a handshake… sometimes a little story of what he would like to do or some things he has done since that last time you spoke. Over the years, he’s been a recruiter for the troop with 3 new scouts, one of whom has recently turned 18 and is in the process of becoming a ASM and another is in the Army currently deployed in Iraq.

While attending a variety of events with the troop, he always brings along a high level of energy and becomes a motivator not just to the troop but also to younger cubs at events such as Chuck Wagons and Fall Blasts. During our community projects, he continues to bring a his high level of energy when attending the Nutfield District’s Scouting 4 Food drives, the troop Derryfest service project and will assist with Troop Eagle projects. He may not have a lot of Scout awards, however, what he bring to the table is his spirit, energy and friendship to all in the troop and the community.

Outside the Scouting Program, this nominee is a member of New Hampshire’s Special Olympic program. He competes in Summer and Winter games of which recently became a three time silver medalist in skiing for the 100m, 200m and 400m events. I know the level of energy that he brings to the troop, so with the excitement of the Olympic Games, I can only imagine the enthusiasm and excitement he carries with him there.

We dream of more young men like him in the world today… friendly, courteous, kind and trustworthy just scratch the surface of how he has lived. We’re sure he’ll continue to present himself that way as he continues in Troop 98, in the Scouting program, and in his community.

It is with great pleasure that the Nutfield District presents Adam Rapson with the Distinguished Unit Service Award.
